AN Ayrshire plant hire business has added ten more Volvo excavators to its fleet.
K T Montgomery Plant Hire, headquartered in Galston, bought an initial batch of 14, 22 and 30-tonne machines last year.
The company’s latest order includes five 14-tonne EC140Es and five 22-tonne EC220Es. All the machines are configured in a standard specification that includes hammer/shear hydraulics, hydraulic quick couplers and hose rupture valves fitted to the boom and dipper arm cylinders.
“Since making the initial investment in new Volvo excavators last year, we haven’t been let down by either the product or support we have received from SMT GB’s customer support centre in Stirling,” said MD Keith Montgomery. “Furthermore, having a high quality brand’s machines available for hire is paying dividends with many of our major contracting and civil engineering customers, who specifically call for Volvos. Having fresh equipment in the fleet has certainly helped the business, which has encouraged us to purchase more machines for 2020.”
Both new models feature Volvo Stage V compliant engines, developing 121 and 174 nett hp respectively. The EC140Es and EC220Es also feature an Integrated work mode control, said to ‘significantly’ lower fuel consumption by providing rapid dig cycles at a high level of efficiency.
Having started out as an agricultural contractor, Keith established K T Montgomery Plant Hire Ltd in 2012 and covers the whole of Scotland, predominantly the central belt.
