Blairgowrie site central to Gordons’ growth plans

Gordons construction depot in Blairgowrie

GORDONS Construction Equipment has tipped customers to benefit from the opening of the firm’s new Blairgowrie depot following an expansion of the company’s product portfolio.

The new Perthshire facility is Gordons’ seventh location – but crucially the first north of Glasgow.

The Castle Douglas-headquartered business already has six bases across south-west Scotland and Carlisle. The Develon dealer has added Bomag compaction equipment and Dieci telehandlers to its offering.

“We made the decision to set up our new depot in Blairgowrie as this is a central location to the whole of Scotland, giving our northern customers a location for sales, service and parts for our main franchises: Develon, Bomag and Dieci,” sales director Kevin Fraser told Project Plant.

“With this being Gordons’ first dedicated construction depot and our first north of Glasgow, we will now have parts and service available closer to our customers.”

Previously, these customers were supported from the Castle Douglas HQ and a depot in Strathaven. With the Blairgowrie base up and running, Kevin anticipates reduced costs and downtime.

Founded in 1865, Gordons was predominantly an agricultural equipment supplier before expanding into construction in 2017.

The Blairgowrie site is focused purely on construction machinery, with a target customer base comprising everyone from housebuilders and forestry contractors to landscape gardeners and those involved in the rapidly growing peatland restoration sector.

“We will hold stock of our most popular, fast-moving Develon machines at the Blairgowrie yard, where our sales representative David Moir will be based, as well as Bomag and Dieci machines,” Kevin added. “We will have a fully operational parts and service facility, with two parts personnel, stocking parts for our suppliers, sundries, and hydraulic hose repairs.

“Our workshop will be managed by our service manager with three qualified engineers on the road with fully kitted out service vans. We will (also) have a workshop-based engineer who will be responsible for PDI (pre-delivery inspection) of new machines and fabrication work.”

Kevin believes the addition of the Bomag and Dieci ranges perfectly complement the existing Develon offering. He expects these machines to grow into an important part of the overall operation and open the door to both new and existing customers in northern Scotland.

The depot opening comes during a busy year for Gordons. The firm enjoyed its largest ever presence at ScotPlant in April, with an eye-catching display that included a Develon DL320-7 loading shovel wrapped in the late rugby legend Doddie Weir’s tartan to raise money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, and a digger featuring an image of Scott McTominay’s famous overhead kick goal that helped take Scotland to the World Cup.

“We had an excellent turnout over the two days at ScotPlant,” Kevin added. “Some exciting new machines on display, good enquiry levels, demonstration requests, and a few handshakes over the two days, which is always encouraging and makes the effort worthwhile.”
