THE Scottish Plant Owners Association has welcomed a trio of Scottish plant sector leaders to its executive committee.

Graham Bow, MD of Gordon Bow Plant Hire; Paul McCormack, MD of Blackwood Plant Hire; and Craig Purvis, MD of The Purvis Group. were appointed at the organisation’s 75th AGM, held earlier this week at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel & Spa in Falkirk.

Graham Bow is a former SPOA president and is rejoining the executive committee. He said, “I’m excited to be back at the executive table, spending time bouncing off ideas with some great industry leaders.”

Paul McCormack is also looking forward to being back on the committee, particularly to better represent the operated plant sector. “Based on my own experience with depots across Scotland, I hope to bring a voice to the operated plant sector in our industry,” he added. “At a time when the industry continues to face challenges, I hope that I can play my part within the executive committee to support our members in addressing those challenges.”

Craig Purvis feels privileged to follow in his father’s footsteps as a member of the committee. He stated, “I am a strong advocate of apprenticeships in the industry and I believe in the value of starting from the ground up. I would very much like to be involved in the SPOA’s efforts to encourage young people to consider a career in the plant industry.”

Stepping down from the executive committee are Bryan Shilliday of Tam Shilliday Plant Hire and Groundworks; Gary Robertson, operations director at Hermiston Plant Hire Ltd; and former SPOA president Callum Mackintosh, MD of Highland Hammer Hire and director of Hi-Skills.

SPOA president David Jarvie acknowledged the contributions of Bryan, Gary and Callum: “All members of the SPOA executive committee give up their time to represent our members, drive innovation, lobby, and be the voice of the plant industry in Scotland. I would like to thank Bryan, Gary and Callum for all of their efforts over the years. Callum in particular worked hard to foster a stronger relationship with the CITB and to develop opportunities for young people in our industry. The SPOA Apprentices of the Year Awards, celebrated at our annual dinner, are an enduring part of his legacy.

“A warm welcome to Graham, Paul and Craig who I am confident will bring skills, tenacity and passion to the executive committee. I look forward to working closely with them.”
