FLEET management software provider GearJoT is entering the wider UK construction market following a three-year pilot with Stevens Equipment Rental (SER) to help test and refine its functionality.
As SER’s fleet and footprint expanded, the business required a unified asset management solution to aid collaboration between its teams throughout the lifecycle of its machines.
Existing platforms often offered only basic maintenance features. Drawing on his background in the used equipment sector, GearJoT founder David Macfarlan offered a different approach.
“Every time I spoke with a customer looking to buy a used machine, they would say, ‘we need the records. We want to see the maintenance history’,” he explained. “So GearJoT was designed to provide the complete maintenance and service history for every asset.”
SER became a pilot user for GearJoT, providing feedback to help shape the platform into a tool suitable for any business managing fleets in the construction and extraction industries.
“SER has a meticulous maintenance culture, which aligns perfectly with what we were trying to achieve,” Macfarlan added. “If GearJoT could meet the standards of their team, we knew it would work for any operator, and we’re grateful for their input.”
Refinements included a mobile app, enabling engineers to update tasks and inspections from the field; the ability to share detailed inspection reports, including photos and videos, directly with customers and manufacturers; and telematics feeds from multiple equipment brands in one place.
“Previously, we would have different telematics platforms open for all the equipment brands in our fleet,” said David Grace, SER’s plant manager. “Now in GearJoT we can see the location and health of all our machines at a glance and be more proactive in our maintenance. It makes it so much easier to fix small issues at a convenient moment – often before the operator is even aware of them – before they can turn into more serious problems that lead to unplanned downtime.”
GearJoT is now embedded across the SER business, from service coordinators and hire desk staff to sales and finance teams.
With the pilot phase complete, GearJoT is launching across Europe and North America.
“Working with a high-quality operator such as SER allowed us to see exactly how all aspects of fleet management work on the ground,” Macfarlan concluded. “Their feedback on inspections, task handling, and data consolidation was invaluable, and it ensures that GearJoT is a platform that genuinely works for users across mining and construction.”
