New Bobcat minis launched at bauma 2025

Bobcat R2-Series 1-2 tonne mini-excavators

BOBCAT has been debuting the firm’s new R2-Series 1-2 tonne mini-excavator models, alongside an upgrade to the R2-Series E88, at bauma 2025 this week.

The new generation R2-Series minis include the E16, E17z, E19 and E20z models, replacing the previous M-Series E17, E17z, E19 and E20z machines.

The R2-Series introduces several new features, notably its SmartFlow hydraulic system, which uses load-sensing pump bundled with a closed centre/flow-sharing main control valve. All of this is powered by a new engine, said to create an engineering setup that is ‘exceptionally sophisticated’ for compact machines of this size.

Like in larger machines, the new hydraulic system allows operators to carry out multiple functions simultaneously. When working with equipment that requires a lot of hydraulic power, such as a flail mower on a quick coupler running at full speed, operators can drive, slew and lift smoothly at the same time.

“We reduced the operating noise by up to 3 dBA compared to the previous generation,” said Robert Husar, product line director for Bobcat in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “This represents a significant decrease of 50% in sound energy, meaning a noticeably quieter machine on the job site. This not only enhances operator comfort but also reduces noise impact on surrounding environments, making the excavator better suited for urban and noise-sensitive areas.”

At bauma, Bobcat is also showcasing an enhanced version of the E88 nine-tonne R2-Series mini-excavator. Increased operator comfort results from the use of the Fritzmeier cab, offering improved window and windscreen open and close access, reduced noise and vibrations, and additional standard features and options such as Direct to Tank and an intermittent wiper – standard in all configurations; a rear-view camera – optional for machines with a 7-inch display; and a new Radio FM/AM/DAB/Phone Ready function – included in some specifications as standard.

The E88 delivers is powered by a Bobcat D24 Stage V four-cylinder engine offering a maximum power output of 48.5 kW.
