VOLVO Construction Equipment has unveiled a new class hauler as part of the manufacturer’s new generation revamp.
The A50 articulated hauler boasts a 45-ton payload and is said to deliver 10% more productivity and 8% greater fuel efficiency when compared to the previous generation A45GFS.
Volvo said the launch takes the full suspension concept to the next level as the only full suspension machine on the market of its size class. As a result, it is described as offering improved cycle times, an increase in hauler production per operator hour, and lower costs when compared to standard suspension counterparts.
Per Trozell, product manager in sales region Europe & International, said, “We are proud to be further innovating our range of articulated haulers with this new addition to the family. Filling a significant gap in the market, the A50 is the optimum choice for customers looking to achieve more for less, with the same incredible strength and durability that is recognized throughout our full range of articulated haulers.”
Features include the Volvo drivetrain with Terrain Memory and Volvo Dynamic Drive with predictive gear selection. The new Volvo transmission and axles are also said to generate greater power and productivity across daily operations.
Volvo added that service costs are reduced by up to 6% over 12,000 hours of operation.
The A50 is being introduced to Europe and North American markets, along with its upgraded siblings. The A25, A30, A35, A40, A45 and A60 haulers have all been updated to meet the evolving needs of customers.
Per Trozell explained, “Our haulers have always given our customers an exceptional off-road performance, outstanding operator comfort and maximum uptime. But now that we have updated them with our most exciting features yet for effortless operation, the best just got better. Our ability to maintain a world-leading position in this segment is testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence, with quality, safety and environmental care firmly at its heart.”
The Volvo drivetrain with Terrain Memory aims to ensure ‘superb fuel efficiency without compromising on power’ with its ability to also identify and remember any slippery road segments. Automatic drive combinations with 100% differential locks and all-terrain bogie and hydro-mechanical steering are designed to combine to provide ‘unmatched traction, stability and precision control’, the manufacturer stated.
Volvo Dynamic Drive, a downhill speed control function, and ‘industry-leading’ braking systems are also included.
All essential in-cab information is displayed on just two screens. The integrated Volvo Co-Pilot display offers control over functions such as media, camera settings, climate control, and machine status. This is combined with the dynamic instrument cluster, positioned in front of the steering wheel, which provides vehicle data at a glance.
Adjustable seats, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports and storage solutions are also part of the offering, alongside an ergonomic gear leaver and noise-reducing cab design.
Visibility is boosted by redesigned cab panels and wider wiper coverage. Optional front and rear cameras, and a standard entrance camera are further enhancements.
A repositioned door entrance, railings on both sides, and focused lighting on both the stairs and platform are designed to make entering and exiting the cab safer and easier.
The updated range has reinforced axles capable of withstanding heavier loads and higher torque, while safety features include new harness anchor points in the cab which meet WorkSafeBC and OSHA regulations, withstanding up to 22kN of force.
The updated models are planned for stepwise introductions to Europe and North America.
