Speedy invests £1m in ‘industry-first’ Stage V generator retrofit

SPEEDY has announced it has delivered an ‘industry-first’ retrofitted Stage V emission compliant generator, as part of a trial to boost availability of greener generators to the construction industry.

The business is working with exhaust systems expert Eminox, a specialist in the design of aftermarket retrofit technology, to retrofit Stage IIIa generators to Stage V emission compliant standards.

Following successful trials, Speedy revealed it has invested £1 million in upgrading its Stage IIIa generators.

Nick White, UK sales director – power, at Speedy, said, “All major contractors are looking for Stage V generator technology as they strive to support sustainably ambitious projects, that goes above and beyond the current legislation on environmental impact. But demand is massively outweighing supply, with low availability blocking contractors from switching to greener power alternatives.

“We’ve invested millions of pounds in our Stage IIIa fleet over the last few years. Retrofitting these units to the increasingly essential Stage V emission compliant standard will help to deliver the capacity the market needs, while ultimately enabling contractors to operate more sustainably.

“Upgrading generators, rather than replacing, will also cut tonnes of waste in our business as Stage IIIa is phased out in the years to come. We’re looking forward to working further with Eminox on this initiative and on new projects to come.”

Speedy’s power team was recently appointed by the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy to ship 287 mobile generators to Ukraine. Speedy sourced and supplied the units from manufacturer Pramac, with the generators being used to maintain power for essential services like hospitals and shelters.
