Making it look Easy

LAST year Manitou Group launched its new version of the manufacturer’s ‘Easy’ range of telehandlers from 11 to 18m, incorporating a number of new features developed to further improve health, safety and efficiency.

These include the new EasyStep cab access, Stage V compliant engine without AdBlue, and a new ‘Harmony’ operator dashboard. Standard ‘Connected Machine’ status is said to ensure fleet managers can remotely monitor machine performance and service requirements. The Eco Stop option can be selected to reduce running costs.

Manitou said the MT 1840 Easy Stage V telehandler strikes the ‘perfect balance’ between power and precision. The new Deutz Stage V 75hp engine is simpler to operate, utilising a Diesel Particular Filter (DPF) to meet Stage V emissions without the need for AdBlue. Since 2019, all new compatible Manitou machines are ‘Connected’. Connected machines offer benefits including a tracker which can communicate the machine’s location at any time. It’s also possible to GeoFence the machine for increased safety and security. The dealer or fleet manager will be able to track the machines and identify service needs remotely.

Manitou added that operators will appreciate its ‘simple’ torque convertor transmission and ‘impressive’ lift capacity, particularly when the outriggers are deployed.

A fresh design includes a black cab and structure, while access to the cabin has been redesigned to incorporate the new Manitou ‘Easy Step’ to aid access. The new curve of the step limits the risk of falls with improved visibility and reduces operator fatigue. The Eco Stop function automatically stops the engine and the hour meter when the driver is out of the cab, according to the desired setting.

The new engine bonnet has also been completely redesigned for the optimum rear and side visibility.

Made of thermo hardened resin which absorbs shocks without deformation, Manitou said it gives greater resistance to impacts on site.

The Stage V model includes a ‘Harmony’ dashboard. The display indicates information such as maintenance intervals, travel speed and hydraulic settings.

Lifting capacity and operational speeds are described as being enhanced with Manitou’s 4-section telescopic boom. Thanks to a chain arrangement, all the telescopic sections are extended simultaneously, which the manufacturer revealed provides ‘smooth but swift’ boom operations. An auxiliary service at the attachment carriage for hydraulic attachments is fitted as standard, while the Easy Connect System (ECS) allows easier attachment changes.
