TDL Equipment to close Coatbridge base

TDL Equipment has announced plans to close its Coatbridge base by the end of January following a “challenging year” for the plant industry.

The equipment dealer has ended its role as supplier of Sany excavators after the manufacturer announced it would be setting up a UK office and looking for more dealers, removing the exclusivity previously enjoyed by TDL.

TDL said it has also chosen to end its current dealership relationships with Genie and Mecalac, with the future focus of the business set to be on Atlas products in the scrap and waste sectors.

Andrew Taylor, dealer principal at TDL Equipment said, “2019 has been a challenging year within the industry, Brexit uncertainties have delayed investment on infrastructure with the knock-on effect that customers are also holding back purchasing capital equipment. Since July, sales of excavators have dropped considerably over previous years’ sales.

“Sany have recently announced that it will be setting up a UK office and will be looking for more dealers; this removes the exclusivity that we enjoyed. This change means TDL have had to review how it covers GB, and have decided in the best interest of TDL to withdraw selling and supporting this product with immediate effect.

“For Scottish customers we have had to make the hard decision to close Coatbridge, this being completed by the end of January. On the back of the Sany decision we have also decided to terminate our current dealership relationship with Genie and Mecalac. We are working with Sany, Genie and Mecalac to support a smooth transition to other dealers.

“TDL’s future focus will be Atlas products in scrap and waste industries covering Great Britain.”
