Agricultural contractor “well impressed” with new Volvo’s performance

A new Volvo EC140E excavator is set to tackle a range of agricultural projects around Dumfries and Galloway after a plant hire boss made the decision to return to the manufacturer.

Gavin Milven, proprietor of G A Milven Plant Hire of Wigtown, Dumfries & Galloway, has snapped up the 14-tonne machine, which will be deployed on tasks such as ditching and drainage on farms and forest roads.

He explained, “It was back in 2006 when I decided to venture forth on my own and was lucky enough to hire an EC140B from a larger contractor for a year before I could afford to buy the machine. I really liked the Volvo but after a while changed it and went elsewhere at that time. However, I’m pleased to be in a position to come back and buy the latest EC140E model.

“I’m really amazed at the power and performance of the machine in terms of its digging ability and its tractive effort. I’m well impressed.”

The EC140E is powered by a four-cylinder Stage-IV compliant Volvo engine. When ECO-mode is selected, the machine is said to provide better fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions. Gavin’s machine is reportedly using just 7.3 litres per hour.

“The fuel efficiency is equally impressive and I can undertake most of the jobs required just using ECO-mode,” he explained. “The AdBlue consumption is good too, so yes, I’m extremely pleased with my new machine.”

Other features include the “roomy” Volvo Care Cab, pressurised and filtered cab air supplied by a 14-vent, climate controlled system, and an adjustable LCD colour monitor that provides ‘real time’ data of machine functions, diagnostic information and tool settings.
