A long-established Skye-based firm has splashed out on a new Volvo ECR88D reduced swing compact excavator to help with the delivery of larger scale projects.
James MacQueen Building Contractors Ltd, a third generation-run family business, bought the 8.8 tonne machine after previously using smaller machines including the EC15, 25 and 35 models.
Managing director James MacQueen explained, “Besides evaluating the market for this size of machine, one of the main reasons for choosing the ECR88D was the fact we have expanded our operations over the recent past and required a larger machine to tackle the projects we are involved with.”
The machine was delivered by local Volvo utility dealer CSM Sales Ltd and is helping perform tasks on a range of projects including new builds, extensions and property renovations.
“The Volvo ECR88D in particular is highly regarded in the market place for its economical use of fuel, thanks to the combination of its Tier-IV interim 2.6 litre engine developing 56 nett horsepower and closed centre-load sensing hydraulic system for fast cycle times and smooth control,” Volvo said.
The manufacturer added that the ECR88D offers a “generous” horizontal reach of 7.3 metres and a lift capacity of 960kg at full reach across the carriage.
