PERTH-based plant hire and contractor C D Mercer has added a 5.5 tonne Volvo EC55C to its fleet, having previously cross-hired the model and been impressed with its fuel efficiency and operator comfort.
The machine was supplied by utility dealer CSM Sales and has been specified for the firm with hose rupture valves on the boom and dipper cylinders and optional steel track pads.
Proprietor Colin Mercer said, “Much of our contracting work is on private estates, building and maintaining tracks and hill roads.
“The EC55C’s operating weight and dimensions coupled to the addition of steel tracks is ideal for this purpose – being able to compact freshly laid hardcore and Type-1 material to a desired level.”
Powered by a direct injection Volvo diesel engine developing 35.1kw, Volvo said the “high performance” tractive forces make levelling and backfilling “quick and efficient work”.
The manufacturer added that the float blade provides precision finishing through a “minimal, yet consistent amount of blade force”.
