A successful showing at ScotPlant was enough to convince Worsley Plant Managing Director Sean Heron that David Marshall was the right man to fill the vacancy of Area Sales Manager for Scotland.
David, who is based in Alloa, was recommended for the job by his predecessor who had to leave the role due to health reasons.
David explained, “Sean phoned me and gave me an appointment to meet him at ScotPlant – that was my job interview.
“I worked at the show for two days, which was the best way to get to know each other.
“On the Sunday after the show, a customer asked me how long I’d worked for Worsley Plant. I hadn’t been offered the job permanently at that point and wasn’t sure what to say but Sean interrupted and said “he started with us today!”
“That was how I found out I had the job.
“Worsley Plant is already well established in England and Wales but the Scottish market is getting bigger all the time so they needed someone to manage it.”
David, who’s a motor mechanic by trade and a keen mountain biker, is vastly experienced in the plant industry and his former jobs include depot manager at Lemac Engineering and foreman at Geith Excavator Buckets.
He also spent 18 years in the opencast mining industry for Orenstein & Koppel.
“I knew in the first five minutes at ScotPlant that this was right for me,” David added. “My first impressions were all positive and I liked Sean straight away. Our products are all top quality, which makes my job much easier. At the moment I’m focused on promoting both myself and the products and I’ve hit the road running. The industry is on the up and we’re hoping for steady growth in Scotland.”
Sean Heron said, “David’s background will prove a valuable asset to the team here at Worsley Plant as we see Scotland as a key focus area for the future.
“We look forward to developing the Scottish market and having a dedicated resource based there, on hand to meet and service our customer’s requirements. We are delighted to welcome him to the team.”
