SCREENCORE has sadly announced the death of its joint founder and sales director Ciarán Ryan at the age of 52.
Ciarán was born in November 1973 in County Kildare. Following secondary education and upbringing in Athlone, he attended the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, studying business and marketing with a specialism in German.
After graduating, Ciarán joined Extec Screens and Crushers, initially as an area sales manager in Germany. Following relocation to the UK, and then to Ireland, his career in the industry really took off when he joined a relatively new entrant in the sector, Erin Systems Ltd. Initially appointed as sales manager, the businesses experienced tremendous growth, introducing the Erin Finger Screen, with Ciarán soon becoming MD at a relatively early age.
He opted for a dramatic career change, becoming a commercial helicopter pilot in South Africa. However, mobile crushing and screening was in his blood, and in 2008 Ciarán joined Fintec as a global export sales manager. Following the company’s acquisition by Sandvik Mining and Construction, he was appointed sales manager for Australia, New Zealand and South Africa for the group’s mobile crushing and screening business unit, boosting sales by over 200% in the region. This success led to Ciarán becoming OEM business manager in 2011 before being made responsible for sales in northern Europe.
He later co-founded Screencore Ltd alongside director James McGrath and Martin Maye. The business provides mobile crushing and screening solutions manufactured in Dungannon, Northern Ireland. Despite being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, Ciarán continued to help Screencore develop until illness made such work impossible.
Ciarán leaves behind his loving wife Bairbre, children Alice, Louis and Iris, as well as his parents Rita and Dermond, siblings Donal, Aiden and Aoife, as well as an extended family and many, many friends.
His funeral was held on 15 October at St. Brigid’s Church Straffan, County Kildare. The family welcomes donations to Cancer Trials Ireland: https://cancertrials.ie/donate/ in his memory.
