CRANE hire and lifting specialist Lee Lifting has purchased an LTM 1100-5.3, becoming only the third company in the UK to operate Liebherr’s latest 100-tonne mobile crane.
A key factor influencing the decision was the crane’s low axle loads while travelling on public roads, making it particularly suited to inner-city projects and the urban environments in which the business frequently operates.
The five-axle crane features a 62-metre telescopic boom and has been specified with a hydraulically adjustable folding jib, which can be offset by up to 40 degrees. Combined, these provide a maximum hook height of 76 metres and a working radius of up to 64 metres.
The LTM 1100-5.3 incorporates Liebherr’s latest LICCON3 control system, which is said to retain the familiar operating philosophy of previous generations while offering a faster data bus, increased storage capacity, and greater computing power. Further features include VarioBase and VarioBallast, which are designed to enhance safety when working in confined spaces while also improving lifting capacities.
In the UK, the crane can travel with 22.5 tonnes of counterweight while remaining within STGO regulations and can be configured to achieve axle loads as low as nine tonnes.
Given its involvement in the film industry, Lee Lifting opted for a second hoist winch to maximise flexibility and functionality when supporting a variety of specialist lifting operations.
Lee Lifting’s Jody Whitmore said, “We are always looking for something different in a crane to service our many varied applications, and we were drawn to the LTM 1100-5.3 for its new operating system, easy ballasting options, giving the ability to achieve low axle loads and reduced carrier width for ease of access.”
