Hyundai introduces new 28-tonne materials handler to European market

Hyundai HW270A MH material handler

HYUNDAI Construction Equipment is launching a new 28-tonne materials handler to the European market.

The HW270A MH is aimed at customers looking for a powerful handling solution for medium to heavy-duty applications.

The machine uses a wider and longer undercarriage than a wheeled excavator, with outriggers at both ends to maximise stability when working at reach. Available with a choice of straight or gooseneck arms, the handler offers a maximum working reach of up to 12.41m with a maximum bucket pin height of 5.4m. It can be used with a range of attachments.

Powered by a six-cylinder Stage V diesel engine, the handler boasts an output of 141kW (189hp). The engine is equipped with a variable pressure turbocharger, while a standard reversible cooling fan aims to help improve fuel efficiency.

Hyundai explained that an electronically controlled twin-pump hydraulic system works with the engine control to provide ‘maximum’ economy and performance, while a one-touch Power Boost function instantly delivers ‘optimum’ performance for hard digging and heavy lifting. An additional axial piston motor drives a two-stage planetary reduction gear swing motor, which the manufacturer said delivers ‘maximum’ torque and faster slew times.

The undercarriage is powered by an axial piston motor, driving through a two-speed powershift transmission. The operator can switch from high to low speed in working mode and there is an additional switch to provide a creep speed function. Travel speeds are 4km/h in creep mode, with 9 and 19km/h available in low and high speeds. Automatic multi-disc brakes are released as the transmission pedal is pressed, while a spring-applied hydraulically released parking brake works on the transmission shaft.

The HW270A MH comes with a hydraulically elevating cab structure, offering up to 2.6m of lift. An Emergency Cab Descent system is designed to enable safe evacuation in the event of a loss of engine power.

The ROPS/FOPS cab features air conditioning, a reclining operator’s seat with lumbar support and heating options. Large windows aid visibility and a rear-view camera is standard. A standard AAVM all-round visibility system with 360° cameras is also included, while a virtual wall system prevents the machine colliding with obstructions. A standard Overload Warning System provides additional safety in lifting operations.

The seat and controls can be adjusted to suit different sizes, with independent height options for the seat and console. A 7” colour monitor and toggle switch allow the operator to select individual preferences. The machine is equipped with standard joystick steering.

“The HW270A MH has been specifically built for materials handling operations, delivering increased operator awareness, protection from overloads and collisions, and precise control from a commanding driving position,” said Natalia Barbieri, EU product manager. “With a driveline that has been engineered for performance, the HW270A MH provides a new level of productivity for a wide range of handling applications.”
