Delden takes delivery of ‘first-of-its-kind’ Liebherr crane

DELDEN Cranes has taken delivery of a ‘first-of-its-kind’ in the UK 400-tonne crawler crane from Liebherr.

The arrival of the low-hour 1400 SX – which is now the largest in the Delden fleet – comes as the firm celebrates 50 years in the hire business.

Until recently, Delden Cranes’ crawler crane fleet topped out at 300 tonnes with its LR 1300.1, which MD Sean Nyland regards as the ideal machine for delivering ‘class-leading’ lifting capacities to the company’s core customer base.

He said, “We are not a company that wants to chase larger heavy-lift projects or step outside our key market of long-term crane hire. We know our customer base and our core markets, and we will continue to serve this sector to the best of our ability, working with many long-standing customers and delivering the high levels of service and reliability they have come to expect.”

With the LR 1300.1s being a busy machine, Sean and his team recently invested in a new flagship crane, the LR 1400 SX. The addition of the heavier crane is designed to support the existing fleet and business needs in a growing market.

Sean continued, “We purchased the LR 1400 SX as a low-hour used machine through Liebherr Great Britain; we have dealt with the team successfully for several years. The Liebherr cranes are a delight to operate, a true driver’s machine and ones which give us superior functionality and scope for working on a variety of projects.”

The LR 1400 SX is available in a multitude of configurations with a maximum hoist height of 173 metres complemented by a maximum radius of 124.0 metres. With an 86 metre main boom, one of the key points of the machine is that it will share luffing equipment from Delden’s LR 1300.1, allowing the company to swap equipment between the two models if necessary.
