TRIBUTES have been paid to Scottish plant industry stalwart Gordon Bow, who has sadly passed away.
Gordon was the founder of Broxburn-based Gordon Bow Plant Hire and a former president of the Scottish Plant Owners Association (SPOA).
A statement on Gordon Bow Plant Hire’s social media channels confirmed the sad news, adding that ‘his legacy and values will remain an important part of the business, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him’.
Gordon’s son, Graham, has been MD of the family business for several years now.
Many prominent members of the Scottish plant industry past and present took to social media to pass on their condolences and share their memories of Gordon Bow.
The SPOA described him as a ‘highly respected and much-valued’ member of the Scottish plant industry, adding that his contribution to the SPOA over many years will be remembered with great appreciation.
“As a past president, Gordon played an important role in the association and was a passionate supporter of its work and its members,” the SPOA said in a statement published on its social media pages. “He was a familiar and well-respected figure within our industry, known for his warmth, enthusiasm and commitment to supporting the plant community.
“Gordon’s involvement with SPOA extended beyond his time as president, and he continued to take a keen interest in the association and the people within it. His knowledge, experience and friendship will be greatly missed by colleagues, friends and fellow members. On behalf of the Scottish Plant Owners Association, our sincere condolences go to Gordon’s family, friends and all those who knew and worked alongside him. Gordon will be remembered with great affection and gratitude by the SPOA community.”
The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) said it was ‘deeply saddened’ to learn of the passing, praising Gordon for building a ‘formidable business’ and describing him as a strong supporter of the hire industry.
“He was a passionate supporter of plant associations, and his leadership, wisdom and character have left a lasting impression on colleagues at Gordon Bow Plant Hire and across the wider industry,” the CPA said. “Our thoughts are with Gordon’s son Graham, his family, friends and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.
“We wish Graham and the team at Gordon Bow Plant Hire strength and every success as they carry forward the business and the legacy Gordon worked so hard to build. Gordon will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.”
