UK industry’s commitment to safe digging has been praised following a record number of searches in 2025 for underground pipes and cables.
LSBUD, an online platform, revealed that it surpassed four million searches last year, making it the most successful year in the organisation’s history. This represents a 6% increase on 2024.
With asset records of over 170 members, including underground and overhead pipelines and cables, LSBUD’s service assists in the maintenance and awareness of utility assets across the country, helping to protect workers, prevent utility strikes, and reduce disruption to services and communities.
The LSBUD system also received over ten million individual interactions with member asset records in 2025.
Richard Broome, MD at LSBUD, said, “Recording four million searches in a single year, and generating more than 10 million touchpoints across member assets, is a major achievement. It reflects both the scale of activity across the safe digging industry and how LSBUD has evolved into the UK’s most trusted service for safer, smarter digging.”
The growth seen throughout 2025 was said to be driven by technology updates, including the development of the LSBUD app, expanded membership, enhanced digital capability, and sustained collaboration across the sector.
Richard Broome added, “At a time where some of the safe digging industry is in flux, we are more committed than ever to building on this momentum and to helping the industry dig safer, every day. Safety must be the number one priority, every time.”
