Cat launches new material handler for port and scrapyard applications

Cat material handler

CATERPILLAR is introducing a new material handler designed to deliver the long reach required for barge loading/unloading and large scrapyard applications.

The MH3295 will feature a dedicated swing pump for ‘smooth, coordinated’ movement and a wide track undercarriage for ‘optimum stability and performance’.

The machine features an 18m reach plus two counterweight configurations to meet jobsite conditions. Its 4.8m track gauge retracts to a 4.1m width to simplify transport.

The material handler is powered by a 405 kW Cat C18 engine, which meets EU Stage V emission standards and is described as offering reliable operation up to 3,000m above sea level without derating. Three power modes are included – Power, Smart and Eco – to help save fuel.

SmartBoom technology allows the boom to travel up and down without using pump flow, enabling operators to focus on stick and attachment movements. A variety of Cat work tool attachments are available to meet a range of material and density types, while valve priority helps operators direct hydraulic pressure and flow where it is needed.

Cat Payload for the MH3295 helps to eliminate overloading of over-the-road trucks and allow for more accurate production tracking. Real-time weight estimates are displayed in-cab when picking up a material load without swinging.

Standard Swing Assist technology automatically stops upper machine rotation at pre-set points to help operators hit more repetitive swing targets, reduce fuel consumption, and improve cycle times. Leveraging data wirelessly, VisionLink allows fleet managers to review equipment data from a desktop or mobile device. Dashboards provide operating details like hours, location, idle time, and fuel utilisation.

The fixed cab riser provides 360-degree visibility and includes floor windows to help improve visibility when loading material. The new Premium Plus cab design includes small pillars and large windows, plus rear-view, left-side, and right-side-view cameras. The rear cab door entry design features enclosed stairways and integrated lights.

Inside the cab, the seat adjusts to accommodate operators of all sizes, while controls are positioned in front of the operator for comfort. A high-resolution, ten-inch touchscreen monitor presents the jobsite dashboard in an intuitive format.

Standard cab avoidance is designed to help evade contact between the work tool attachment and cab. Automatic climate control is included, while storage compartments are located beneath and behind the seat, plus overhead and in the consoles.
