SMART Construction, the digital arm of Komatsu, has announced the appointment of Daniel Heussen as general manager.
Daniel’s appointment comes as the brand unveils its mid-term plan to drive partnerships across European construction and earthmoving to improve efficiency and safety by launching a bundle-first approach to its digital product offering.
In a move to prioritise industry-wide customer connections, Daniel’s new role will also spearhead digital product transformation and the application of artificial intelligence (AI), leading Komatsu Smart Construction through a new era.
His appointment comes as the Komatsu brand sets its sights on driving transformation across construction through new and enhanced digital product offerings and AI initiatives, further advancing productivity, cost saving, and safety on site.
Over the last 14 years, Daniel has held multiple high profile roles across Komatsu that have focused on technology and machine data, supporting the manufacturing giant across various teams.
The business, headquartered in Vilvoorde, is developing bespoke bundles to incorporate Smart Construction solutions with Komatsu machines, enabling customer collaboration with its customers across its distributor network, strengthening relationships and providing more value.
Earlier this year, the brand announced its 3D Machine Guidance system is now fully compatible with industry-leading tilt rotator brands, including Engcon, Steelwrist, Rototilt, and OilQuick, demonstrating its commitment to partnering with other brands.
Daniel said, “As Komatsu Smart Construction enters a new era, the team is excited to drive progress, prioritise collaboration and strive to exceed the goals detailed in our ambitious mid-term plan.
“Over the last financial year, the Komatsu Smart Construction team celebrated a 44% adoption increase in software as a service (SaaS) technology – demonstrating that the construction sector is in need of digital solutions.
“As a value adding partner, we are pleased to offer our proven solutions paired with our most advanced equipment (iMC 2.0 and 3.0). Initially, all guidance and control solutions will benefit from Remote, with all upcoming iMC 3.0 excavators, such as the newly launched PC220LCi-12, the most advanced excavator in the world, also benefiting from Fleet (Lite). At Smart Construction, we are committed to supporting a decarbonised future and pioneering advances in digital technologies.”
