SECURITY marking and registration systems specialist Datatag has announced a continuation of its sponsorship of the British Superbike Championship (BSB).
This year, Datatag will use its presence at the motorcycle racing series to highlight its new Power Tool Forensic Marking System, which aims to address the issue of tool theft across the UK.
Datatag’s partnership with BSB has provided a platform for raising awareness of forensic security marking. From professional teams in the paddock to fans and amateur riders at home, the championship offers the chance to demonstrate how Datatag technologies can protect valuable assets.
With power tool theft reports running to over 25,000 last year, costing tradespeople, businesses, and individuals in the region of £40 million, Datatag revealed it has responded with a new forensic marking solution designed for portable hand held power tools.
Using a combination of visible identification labels, warning labels, Datadots®, and a unique chemical forensic DNA, the system permanently marks up to 48 power tools, batteries and accessories with an identity registered to the owner on Datatag’s national database, which is accessible by UK police forces.
Additionally, the 500 or so Datadots supplied with each system can be applied to wrenches, chisels, pliers and other smaller non-powered items.
“Tool theft is an ongoing issue that continues to affect people’s livelihoods,” said Kevin Howells, MD of Datatag. “By using the British Superbike Championship to raise awareness of our new forensic tool marking solution, we’re not only supporting a sport we’re passionate about — we’re also bringing attention to a real-world problem and offering a proven solution to help stop it.”
At featured rounds the branded Datatag trailer will be present to demonstrate to visitors how the system works, showcasing how tradespeople, contractors, and businesses can protect tools. With BSB attracting over 350,000 trackside fans annually and a wider broadcast audience across the UK and Europe, the campaign is expected to reach thousands of potential users.
BSB series director Stuart Higgs added, Datatag has been an invaluable partner to the British Superbike Championship and their continued support, especially with a focus on community-impact issues like tool theft, aligns with our values and adds real benefit to the wider motorsport audience.”
