Hyundai 30-tonner shows its True colours on waste transfer station work

30-tonne crawler excavator

A Hyundai Construction Equipment 30-tonne crawler excavator has become the first machine to wear the new livery of Loughborough-based True Group.

The company, which boasts plant hire, grab lorry, aggregate supply, recycling, vehicle leasing and contracting divisions, is evolving from its original branding of True Plant Hire, to reflect the growing diversity of its operations.

Trueline Midlands was formed in 2015 as an ecological fencing and landscaping contractor, before moving into groundworks and civils projects. Purchasing a two-tonne mini-excavator, the business launched a multiple machine fleet and by 2018 True Plant Hire was established. It now runs more than 200 excavators, telehandlers, site dumpers, rollers and compact tracked loaders.

A fleet of five grab lorries was bought in 2021 and the business moved into crushing and screening of construction and demolition waste material. This division has developed to include an inert waste transfer station, producing hardcore and screened soils for re-use.

With a storage capacity of up to 75,000-tonnes a year, the waste transfer station recycles more than 95% of the material taken in from sites. It is this waste business that will be the first customer for the new Hyundai excavator. The 30-tonne HX300A L has been equipped with a 2.5m-wide Allu screening bucket, which will start the sorting process, as material is loaded into a mobile crusher. The machine will also be available through the plant hire fleet, where it will be offered with a range of attachments, including a hydraulic breaker.

The company first acquired a Hyundai excavator in 2018, adding a compact tail-swing HX235A with a dozer blade to the fleet.

“The service that we get from our Hyundai dealer, Willowbrook Plant, is excellent,” said MD Tom MacFarlane. “Plus, the deal that we were offered on the HX300A L was very good. Our previous experience with Hyundai machines is that they are bomb-proof, very reliable.”

The machine has been taken with a three-year warranty and Willowbrook will provide service while the excavator is covered.

True Group has been updating many of its machines as part of this year’s rebranding. “We’re spending about £3 million this year on new equipment and infrastructure. We’ve heavily invested in new plant to give our customers the latest machines,” Mr MacFarlane added.

The HX300A L is powered by a 194kW (260hp) Stage V Cummins engine. The machine features an all-in-one exhaust after treatment system with no requirement for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR).

Electronic Pump Flow Control (EPFC) is designed to ensure an optimal balance of power and precision and an Eco Guage in the cab helps operators to maximise economy. The cab features an 8” touchscreen monitor that allows the operator to access machine control menus and monitor performance.

The 30-tonne digger is equipped with Advanced Around View Monitoring (AAVM) with four cameras providing a 360° view around the machine. Intelligent Moving Object Detection (IMOD) warns operators when people or objects come within 5m.
