Forsyth of Denny snaps up its heaviest telescopic crane

LTM 1650-8.1 crane purchased by Forsyth of Denny

FORSYTH of Denny has welcomed a new Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 crane to its fleet.

The unit – part of a six-machine order – arrived at the company’s Ayrshire depot and will help support the firm’s growing operations in the renewable energy sector.

Liebherr’s heaviest crane on eight axles comes with two boom lengths: a basic four-section 54-metre main boom that can be converted to a six-section 80-metre boom when necessary. The 700-tonne crane is complete with its full 90-metre luffing jib and Y-shaped guying system, taking the hook height to its maximum of 152 metres and radius to 112 metres.

Additional technologies include Liebherr’s VarioBallast for infinite adjustment of the ballast radius using a hydraulic slewing mechanism and WindSpeed load charts, increasing the flexibility and safety by utilising lifting capacity tables with different maximum wind speeds.

Forsyth of Denny director Mark Syme said, “We are absolutely delighted to take delivery of this very impressive piece of equipment, which joins our expanding fleet of Liebherr cranes. The new LTM 1650-8.1 will allow us to provide our customers with an even greater level of service and flexibility.”

In addition to the LTM 1650-8.1, Forsyth has taken delivery of three all-terrain cranes already this year: an LTM 1110-5.2 and two LTM 1060-3.1 models. The three-axle crane has a load capacity of 60 tonnes and features a six-section 48-metre main boom, whereas the five-axle crane comes supplied with LICCON3 – the newest generation of Liebherr’s control system – and a seven-section 60-metre main boom. Another 60-tonner and an LTM 1090-4.2 are due to arrive in the coming weeks and months.
