ORGANISERS of the Hillhead exhibition have announced the next event in 2026 will implement the British Standard ISO 20121:2024, which is a framework developed to ‘enable sustainability to be considered at every decision point during the planning and delivery of an event’.
The QMJ Group revealed it takes environmental responsibilities seriously and continually reviews its operational impact to reduce its carbon footprint and make the event more sustainable.
Recent measures have included: removing single-use plastic from the site; transitioning to HVO to power site structures; reusing or recycling interior show graphics and carpets; using solar-powered generators for lighting towers and security cameras; increasing scope and volume of recycling facilities around the site; encouraging the use of refillable water bottles by providing free access to chilled and filtered water; promoting a car-sharing scheme; and working with contractors to ensure they are delivering more sustainable solutions.
The Hillhead site is described as both ‘challenging and unique’, but the organisers added that this should not prevent them from trying to make further improvements where possible.
The ISO standard allows organisations to demonstrate first party conformity through self-declaration by: engaging with stakeholders; collaborating with the supply chain; creating policies and action plans; and regularly communicating and reviewing progress.
Hillhead 2026 takes place from June 23-25 at Hillhead Quarry, near Buxton, Derbyshire.
