ROTOTILT has announced an expanded role for Solway Machinery Sales in Scotland.

The Dumfries and Galloway-based business, established by Les Aitchison in 2016, joined the Rototilt dealer network in 2021, initially covering a geographical area that included the Scottish Borders, Argyll, and central belt.

That remit has now been extended, with Solway confirmed as Rototilt’s main dealer north of the border. The business will work closely with Rototilt’s other Scottish dealer – AC Agri Sales Ltd – located in Orkney and responsible for covering Orkney & Shetland.

Although Rototilt’s story began in 1953, it wasn’t until 1986 that the Swedish manufacturer’s first tiltrotator was launched to the market. Since then, the brand has grown and today produces a range of tiltrotators designed for excavators from 1.5 through to 43 tonnes.

In 2020, Rototilt expanded its operations with a new office in Warrington, north-west England, along with key staff. Since then, the UK team has worked to establish a nationwide distributor network and support system.

Rototilt described Solway’s extended remit as a  ‘good strategic decision’ and ‘key element’ in the manufacturer’s overall growth plan, praising the business for providing a service that meets customer demand. Solway is a family-run business specialising in the supply of used equipment and attachments. As well as owner Les Aitchison, the team includes Les’s wife Suzzy who is financial controller, and a number of service support providers.

“We are extremely pleased that Solway Machinery are our distributor for Scotland,” said Andrew Little, distributor manager for Rototilt Ltd. “The team offer knowledgeable advice (and a) quick response to customer enquiries and issues.

“We offer an excellent product which is now supported by an excellent distributor. At Rototilt we understand that the tiltrotator is an important part of the customer’s business. Therefore, we have worked hard to appoint local distributors that understand the product, carry parts, but more importantly can respond quickly to a customer issue.”

Malcolm Long, country manager for Rototilt Ltd, added, “We are excited to increase the Rototilt presence in Scotland and throughout the UK and Ireland.”
