Solutions for sites of the future to take centre stage for Liebherr at bauma

Liebherr autonomous operation

LIEBHERR has revealed plans to showcase over 70 exhibits and a variety of technologies and solutions under the theme of ‘Hands on the Future’ at bauma 2025 in Munich.

Many of the machines and innovations will be unveiled to the public for the first time including the T 38-7s – the latest generation of telehandlers in the segment up to 4.2 tonnes. The manufacturer will also mark its entry into the 8-metre class with the new T 48-8s.

In the outdoor area, Liebherr’s concrete technology product segment will provide a first look at its new construction series Mobilmix. The largest variant with a 4 m³ twin-shaft mixer will have its premiere at bauma. This modular construction system is designed to give customers more freedom in plant configuration, as well as shorter delivery times, faster assembly and high parts availability.

Inside the InnovationLab, Liebherr will showcase the development and implementation of object identification by machines fitted with the necessary camera systems and sensors. These are described as the prerequisites to make advanced assistance systems, autonomous machine operations, and predictive maintenance a real possibility.

A self-driving machine, semi-automated lifts and fully digitally controlled products will all be highlighted. Liebherr explained that it views digitalisation as an ongoing and forward-looking process that the company will continue to drive forward. In future, AI and the Internet of Things will be integrated more heavily into machines and work processes. At bauma, there will be a particular focus on the aspects of intelligent machine controls, assistance systems, and semi-autonomous processes.

For the tower crane product segment, the exhibition gives visitors the chance to see the K series fast-erecting cranes. The four cranes feature new, intelligent Liebherr operator-assistance systems. Smart functions, such as swing-free lifting of the load without the use of a diagonal pull, aim to increase safety and reduce the likelihood of damage to delicate components.

Liebherr is also displaying seven mobile cranes with new driver-assistance systems, such as the blind spot information system (BSIS) and the moving off information system (MOIS).

The manufacturer will present a further digital solution for the mining industry – IoMine – which Liebherr said is increasing safety and productivity levels of operations in mines, reducing machine failure rates through real-time monitoring and, in turn, extending the machine’s service life.

Liebherr will also run a live demonstration of an autonomous working wheel loader. The basis for this is the in-house developed autonomous driving system called ‘Liebherr Autonomous Operations’, which is being presented to the wider public for the first time. The autonomous solution, which is at an advanced stage of development, facilitates completely driverless operation.

Visitors can find out more about the Liebherr Remote Control System (LiReCon) for crawler dozers: the new PR 776 G8 70-tonne crawler dozer can be controlled remotely for more flexibility, rendering inaccessible areas of operation accessible.

The battery-driven and autonomous T 264 mining truck – the fruition of a collaboration between Liebherr and Australian customer and partner Fortescue – will be presented at bauma. The truck is equipped with the Autonomous Haulage Solution (AHS), jointly developed by the two companies. Within the AHS is an energy management system that coordinates the stationary charging processes for the truck and ensures the charger is fully utilised.

Another example of new drive technologies is the LR 1300.2 SX crawler crane. Liebherr is unveiling the 300-tonne model for the first time as a battery-driven unplugged version with the benefits of ‘zero emissions’. The crane is powered by a 438 kW electric motor and its 392-kWh battery can deliver up to 13 hours operation on a single charge, depending on the application.

In the outdoor area, the firm will also present the first prototype of a Liebherr large wheel loader with a hydrogen engine.
