End of an era as Molson Young relocates from Doune

MOLSON Young Plant Sales has marked the end of an era following the closure of the firm’s Doune depot.

Employees have temporarily relocated to join colleagues at Molson Finlay Scotland’s Bothwell service centre, ahead of the move to a new combined facility in 2025.

The firm confirmed there will be ‘no impact’ to the level of service customers receive in the interim period, and no reduction in the capacity of spare parts or machine stock.

The Doune depot was opened in the late 1970s after Tom Young, founder of Young Plant Sales, relocated the business from rented premises in Glenmavis, North Lanarkshire. Tom’s son, Brian, joined the firm full-time in 1980. In an interview with Project Plant in 2015, Brian revealed that the company only had four employees at the time of the move.

The business grew exponentially over the years after securing a number of dealerships with major construction equipment manufacturers and, in 2017, was acquired by the Molson Group, one of the UK’s leading independent equipment dealers.

Alistair Murdoch, sales director, Molson Scotland, told Project Plant, “Closing the gates at Doune marks the closing of a chapter of the Molson Young Plant Sales history.

“The depot has provided a setting for many memorable moments for some of our longest-serving team members. But with the end of one chapter comes the start of the next, and we are very happy to be joining our colleagues at Molson Finlay Scotland in Bothwell before we all progress to a new facility in 2025.”
