THE CEA (Construction Equipment Association) has revealed it hopes US president-elect Donald Trump’s trade policies will encourage ‘open and fair exchanges’, with exports being a significant issue for many CEA members.

Viki Bell, CEA director of operations, considered what Trump’s election victory might mean for the UK construction sector.

“We hope the Trump administration will focus on growth, innovation, and technological advancement,” she stated. “As an organisation working for our members, with export being a significant part of what they do, we’re hopeful that trade policies will encourage open and fair exchanges.

“While the proposed universal tariffs and decoupling measures with China suggest a shift toward domestic focus, we trust these will be balanced to sustain valuable trade relationships and minimise unintended impacts.

“Our prime minister congratulated Trump earlier this morning with a statement reminding the president-elect of the UK-US special relationship and specifically mentioned innovation and tech. We know that innovation is what our members do best, so we wait to see what the new administration will bring.”
