Crane specialist marks tenth anniversary with Liebherr double

AYR-based 3b Crane Hire has marked a decade in the transport and crane hire industry by snapping up two brand new Liebherr products.

The company recently welcomed an LTM 1110-5.2 – the first of its kind in Scotland. The unit was followed shortly later by an LTM 1060-3.1.

The five-axle LTM 1110-5.2 is one of the first Liebherr units supplied with the new LICCON 3, the third generation of the control system. Whilst maintaining its original hardware, the system now features a new software package and programming language, as well as a faster data bus, more storage space, and extra computing power, along with an improved in cab touchscreen display.

Further updates include a ZF TraXon gearbox with DynamicPerform clutch and the latest chassis and superstructure cab.

The 110-tonne crane is equipped with a seven-section 60 metre main boom, topped by a 10.8 to 19 metre double swing-away extension fly jib that can be offset to 40 degrees. The crane has a lifting height of 91 metres and a lifting radius of 66 metres. It can also carry all of its 29 tonnes of counterweight.

John Patterson, manager of 3b Crane Hire, said, “We’re delighted with this new 110-tonne crane, marking 10 years of 3b Crane Hire. The crane was put straight to work and we’ve received lots of positive feedback from the operator on the new LICCON 3 operating system and the brand-new cab.”

The three-axle LTM 1060-3.1 features a six-section 48 metre main boom, topped by a 9.5 to 16 metre double swingaway extension fly jib. The 60-tonner has a lifting height of 63 metres and a lifting radius of 48 metres. The crane can carry all of its 12.8 tonnes of counterweight within the UK’s STGO regulations, which allow axle loads up to 16.5 tonnes.

Established in 2014, 3b Crane Hire operates a fleet of cranes ranging from 40 to 230 tonnes.
