‘Climate is at the heart of everything we do’

Christian Spence, head of clean energy at Sunbelt Rentals, explains why the business is leading the ‘green revolution’ in construction plant hire with its range of electric solutions

IN an era where environmental consciousness is at the forefront of industry innovation, Sunbelt Rentals stands tall as the UK’s leading supplier of plant hire equipment. However, what truly sets Sunbelt Rentals apart is a commitment to sustainability, exemplified by our offering of electric plant equipment. So, let’s take a look at the developments in eco-friendly solutions, revolutionising the landscape of plant hire.

The green fleet

Sunbelt Rentals is at the forefront of the industry’s shift towards sustainability, investing significantly in the latest electric and Stage V technology. Our commitment is clear, with the UK’s largest rental fleet of greener plant, covering a diverse range of equipment, including 6m telehandlers from Faresin and JCB, one-tonne excavators from JCB, one-tonne dumpers from JCB, and 2.5-tonne excavators from Wacker Neuson.

While the power requirements of larger excavators currently limit the availability of electric options, we offer Stage V-compliant telehandlers, excavators, and dumpers. All of these are HVO fuel-compatible, ensuring compliance for work in low-emission zones. This investment aligns with our commitments to reducing environmental impact, lowering emissions, and providing tools that contribute to a sustainable way of working.

Reducing environmental impact

Sunbelt Rentals’ range of greener solutions is designed to improve efficiencies through the use of renewable technologies. These solutions not only help customers meet their sustainability goals but also contribute to lower emissions, reduced energy costs, and strengthened ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) credentials.

As the industry undergoes a transformative period, we’re committed to leading the curve in delivering a sustainable future for every site, customer, and budget.

The viability of electric plant

In the quest for sustainability, electric plant emerges as a viable solution, particularly in scenarios where power is readily available on-site for charging. Electric plant is ideal for enclosed spaces, tunnels, Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) areas, and locations near schools and hospitals – areas sensitive to both noise and emissions.

Additionally, electric plant is well-suited for night work, where minimising noise and emissions is crucial.

Although the initial hire cost of electric plant may be higher compared to traditional diesel alternatives, Sunbelt Rentals emphasises that the long-term benefits far outweigh the upfront investment. By choosing electric plant, businesses contribute to a cleaner environment, reduced noise pollution, and lower overall environmental impact, supporting Sunbelt Rentals’ ‘Our Planet’ strategy.

Supporting our planet

Sunbelt Rentals’ commitment to sustainability goes beyond providing electric plant options. Our action plan, Our Planet, is inspired by a clear purpose: to transform lives and lead positive change across the rental industry to deliver a better future.

Collaborating with our customers, Sunbelt Rentals strive for a more sustainable environment, flourishing communities, successful customers, and engaged colleagues, all of which collectively generate a more significant social impact.

As a business, climate is at the heart of everything we do. Investing in new technologies, innovating cleaner, greener solutions, Sunbelt Rentals are here to help businesses meet their eco-goals.
