MV Commercial ramps up provision of remote controlled skip loaders

MV Commercial has announced it is expanding its build and refurbishment programme to satisfy the demand for skip loaders from the recycling industry.

The commercial vehicle specialist revealed it contracted more than 20 skip loaders in May and June alone and is preparing for a ‘flurry’ of orders through the summer months.

Sales director David Patrick said, “Demand from waste recyclers and scrap metal recycling businesses is high.We have stepped up skip loader builds and put a bigger focus on full refurbishments of second-hand units to satisfy our customers’ needs.”

MV Commercial made the decision to steadily increase its Ready to Go stock of skip trucks two years ago, including remote control operated options, and added that it is now in a ‘much stronger’ position to service the uplift in demand for the units.

“It was a great business move,” David Patrick added. “We have the stock to meet the rising demand, and many of our customers now demand remote control operated gear for safety and control reasons. It’s been a real success story.

“The remote-control application provides the operator with better visibility when loading and unloading the skip, and the ability to safely observe the operation from multiple vantage points significantly improves overall safety.”

Glasgow-based Patersons Waste Management is one company to have benefited from MV Commercial’s stock availability, with the family-run business taking delivery of two new DAF LF 290 skip loaders.

Ian McArthur, MD of Patersons Waste Management, explained, “Having the ability to stand back when you are operating the skip loader is a huge safety benefit. We wanted to refresh our fleet on a fairly short lead time and MV Commercial was able to meet that need. Its ability to source the trucks with these additional features was also a significant buying feature for me.”

Enviroworx, a family-run firm based in Midlothian, echoed those views after investing in a new DAF skip loader.

Director Aiden Moffat said, “It was a bit of an eye-opener. We had one on hire for a couple of days and once our driver got used to it, he thought it was great. It’s very useful to have the ability to walk around the skip in tighter areas. The remote control system adds more safety to a job and helps to limit skip damage.”
