Award-winning operator gives new Takeuchi the thumbs up

TAKEUCHI’S new TB395W wheeled excavator was put through its paces for three days at the recent Plantworx exhibition by Owen Mays, who won the Best Demonstrator (Operator) Award for his skills on the machine.

The TB395W is described as providing a ‘larger, high-performing’ machine complete with all the benefits of a wheeled unit, including higher travel speeds and the ability to handle both on and off-road applications.

The model boasts two four-wheel steering options – 4WS (all-wheel steering) and 4WSC (crab steering). Auto Cruise enables operators to adjust travel speeds by pressing a button or operating a toggle switch on an optional, multi-function grip. Auto Cruise is designed for attachments that require a consistent, repeatable speed such as a mulcher, mower or trencher.

The TB395W features the new 3-Series interior cab styling. Using an intuitive automotive styled jog dial, operators can navigate and control the monitor, including its heating and climate control as well as DAB radio functions.

The excavator weighs 1,0625kg equipped with outriggers and a blade. It is powered by a Stage V-compliant Deutz engine delivering 85kW of power and up to 460Nm of torque. Digging depth is 4,095mm, while dump height is 6,240mm. The excavator offers a maximum bucket breakout force of 58.9kN, a maximum arm digging force of 39.7kN, and a traction force of 57.8kN.

The long arm is said to allow for greater clearance between the bucket and dozer blade.

At Plantworx 2023, Owen Mays worked exclusively on the TB395W. He said, “The new TB395W really is a stand-out machine. The simultaneous functions especially with an engcon attachment makes a massive difference. Overall, the machine is smooth and very well balanced with familiar precise Takeuchi controls.

“The cab interior has a really nice upgrade with the colour touch screen and all controls easily in-reach. Visibility seemed great with good visibility all-round helped with auto activation camera. The cab is very roomy – plenty of foot room and the air-con at the hottest ever Plantworx made all the difference!

“The steering was smooth and easy. The retractable fuel hose is a nice feature. Takeuchi are now standard 2-piece boom on a wheeled model, and I wouldn’t drive anything but a 2-piece on site. All in all, a great new machine.”
