SPEEDY has opened its second sustainable service centre in Leeds.
Following the launch of the hire and services provider’s A+ energy rated Milton Keynes Innovation Centre in 2021, Speedy revealed it is using its new low carbon centre model as a blueprint for all future new and refurbished service centres.
The new centre boasts a smart office and warehouse heating which automates shutters and doors to minimise energy usage. There is also indoor air quality monitoring, smart warehouse lighting and work bays, and remote connection which means the depot manager can remotely control lighting and heating. The centre also has three double port electric vehicle charging points.
A wellbeing area is included to enhance the working environment for Speedy colleagues. The centre will work with local primary schools to create a mural at the centre and invite children to plant trees and help bring to life the wellbeing garden.
The centre will showcase electric, battery, solar powered products and technologies. The site adds to the list of larger new regional service centres launched in the past two years including sites in Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
Danny Johnson, Speedy MD for UK & Ireland, said, “I am delighted to announce the opening of our brand-new service centre in Leeds. We are focused on using the latest technologies to decarbonise our whole service centre network to improve the environment for the planet, as well as for our colleagues who work in operational roles, following the success of wellbeing spaces in some of our other new service centres we are excited to continue to implement these spaces for more of our colleagues to benefit from.
“As the first company in our sector to sign up to the globally recognised Science Based Targets (SBTi’s) in the drive towards net zero, our low carbon property plan will play a key role in delivering on the targets we’ve set ourselves in becoming a net zero business by 2040, ten years ahead of the government’s target of 2050.”
