Hilti GB joins UK Green Building Council

HILTI Great Britain has joined the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), following a focus on sustainability across the business which sees it aim for carbon neutrality by the end of the year, and net zero by 2050.

Membership of the council is externally assessed against sustainability metrics, and from 2021 the UKGBC has required all its business members to demonstrate they have a commitment to tackling climate change and a genuine focus on sustainability.

The Hilti Group has committed to becoming CO2 neutral in its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) this year. Next to reducing and offsetting its own carbon emissions, the company revealed that 90% of the emissions in the value chain occur outside of its own operations (Scope 3). To further reduce these emissions, Hilti said it is ‘accelerating’ its ambitions and shifting the focus to Scope 3 emissions by committing to set a near and long-term CO2 reduction target through its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The Hilti Group plans to invest in systematic changes to its own business processes and to further encourage the development of its partners in this regard.

Via membership of the UKGBC, Hilti’s 1000-strong GB workforce will be able to make use of the council’s learning and development programme, as well as its four regional networks in Manchester, Birmingham, the south west and Scotland.

Margaux Wibin, Hilti’s sustainability manager for Great Britain, said, “Joining the council makes complete sense due to the matching vision of Hilti to ‘Making Construction Better’ and UKGBC of a ‘Better Built Environment’. We look forward to collaborating with current members and contributing to future projects.”
