Open days provide showcase for Beith waste recycling plant

MORE than 150 guests from across the UK and Ireland attended a recent open day event at Malcolm Group’s Loanhead Quarry site in Beith, where wet processing equipment specialist CDE has installed a 150tph construction and demolition waste recycling facility.

CDE and Malcolm hosted guided tours of the new plant, highlighting the complete wet processing solution in the hard rock quarry.

Malcolm had identified that landfill space for waste products it could not treat and repurpose was becoming ‘exhausted’. The firm set an objective to divert over 500,000 tonnes of material a year from landfill and develop ‘marketable and innovative’ solutions with a broad range of applications.

The C&D waste recycling facility delivered by CDE consists of an R4500 primary feeding and screening system, AggMax 252R logwasher, EvoWash sand washing fine material classification plant, AquaCycle A600 thickener and Filter Press sludge dewatering system that increases water recycling to more than 95%.

Back in July, Malcolm said that the plant was already proving its effectiveness and delivering high quality in-spec products, including a 0-2mm soft sand and 0-4mm concrete sand. The products will be used for tasks including concrete production, pipe bedding, and backfilling utility tracks.

David Kinloch, CDE director of business development, UK & Ireland, said, “We were delighted to have the opportunity to partner with Malcolm Construction to showcase this 150tph C&D waste recycling plant to so many guests from across the UK and Ireland. This site is helping Malcolm’s extend the life of their hard rock reserves, save void capacity and increase the quarry’s output by 400,000 tonnes per annum with a new range of sustainable in-spec sand and aggregates for the construction market.”
