Isle of Lewis business makes landmark Liebherr crane purchase

THE only crane hire company on the Isle of Lewis has taken delivery of its first-ever Liebherr model.

The LTM1060-3.1 has joined the fleet at John Maciver & Sons and is assisting with lifting duties ranging from construction to ship loading.

The machine is a three-axle model and is said to feature a ‘special method’ of dividing the ballast slabs, allowing a range of driving configurations to be achieved ‘quickly and easily’.

Liebherr added that ECOmode and ECOdrive reduce operating costs and, despite its compact dimensions, the crane offers a maximum load capacity of 60t, a 63m hoist height, and 48m radius.

John Maciver & Sons was founded in 1960. The business provides crane and plant hire across the Western Isles and runs cranes from 35t–100t. In 2009, the business set up sister company Hebridean Plant Hire, a self-drive plant and small tool hire operation.

Iain Maciver, MD of John Maciver & Sons, said, “Being so far from the mainland, we need a manufacturer who can provide reliable support, even in remote locations.”
