Kirkcaldy business opts to expand crane fleet

KIRKCALDY-based Johnston Rigging has snapped up the firm’s first Liebherr LTM 10160-3.1 crane.

The family-run company, which specialises in structural steel erection, also operates a mobile crane hire business. The firm runs an exclusively Liebherr fleet ranging from 35 to 70 tonnes.

The latest addition features VarioBase technology and a 48 metre, 6-section pinned boomed system, said to be capable of reaching a maximum working radius of 40 metres. Jonhston Rigging has specified its LTM 1060-3.1 with 16m double flyjib and emergency shutdown valves, making it suitable for use in a refinery.

Guy Johnston, MD of Johnston Rigging, explained, “The LTM1060 compliments our all-Liebherr fleet well. It comes as part of our replacement programme to ensure we are equipped with the most modern cranes available for our hire fleet and to assist our structural steel erecting squads. With its 48m boom and nimble chassis we are looking forward to squeezing this crane into small spaces and putting it to work.”
