Quarry operator opts for 30-tonner

AN Aberdeenshire producer of aggregates has bough its first Volvo excavator – the 30-tonne EC300E.

Bridgend Aggregates of King Edward will use the machine to load the primary crusher at the company’s hard rock Bridgend Quarry.

Following a trip to baud last year, director Wilson Strachan took the decision to break with his normal brand of machine. He explained, “We got some very positive feedback from large fleet users operating Volvo excavators and this, coupled to our own experience with our (Volvo) loading shovels and the consistently good level of support we have received from SMT GB, clinched the deal.”

The EC300E has a six-cylinder Stage V compliant Volvo engine, developing 243hp. The addition of an Eco mode is said to contribute to fuel savings, while an integrated work mode system gives operators the choice of five different modes to choose from.

Bridgend’s machine has been fitted with optional 600mm double grouser track pads. The machine also features an automatic greasing system for the equipment, as well as an optional boom float device and a 360° system to provide all-round vision.
