X marks the spot for groundworks contractor

JCB has announced that Bell Contracting has placed one of the first major fleet orders for the manufacturer’s 140X crawler excavators.

The move is part of an investment in 25 JCB machines. Bell, a Gloucestershire-based groundworks and civil engineering specialist, has bought 12 14-tonne X Series models along with six cabbed site dumpers and seven Loadall telescopic handlers in a deal worth nearly £2 million.

The 140X is targeted at ground working specialists and is described by JCB as being more ‘productive, durable, quieter, more comfortable and easier to use’ than predecessor models.

Bell will use the machines on a range of housebuilding activities including sewers, roads, attenuation and foundations projects.

Bell MD Peter Bell said, “In order to best serve our customers, we always aim to be first to market with the latest plant and equipment. That’s why we have invested so heavily in the new 140X models. Given the excellent, fault-free, performance of our existing larger JCB X Series excavators we have full confidence in these new machines which share the same qualities.”
