A new Volvo L150H loading shovel is carrying out yard duties around Hullerhill sand and gravel quarry in Kilwinning, Ayrshire
Hugh King & Co purchased the machine, having been buoyed by the reliability of Volvo equipment previously operated over a number of years.
Operations manager Charles Hughes commented, “The L150H with its 4.2m³ rehandling bucket is the optimum sized loading shovel for most of our requirements here at Hullerhill, and is proving to be a good performing all-rounder as an extraction tool, as well as loading out high sided bulkers. Volvo loading shovels are very much appreciated by our operators as well, in terms of cab comfort, overall performance and controllability.”
The machine has joined a smaller Volvo L120H, which looks after the bagging plant at Hullerhill.
The L150H is powered by a Volvo 13 litre Stage V-compliant engine. The loading shovel has had Volvo’s Co-Pilot load assist option installed at the factory. This is described as the latest in weigh loading sophistication, allowing operators to calibrate buckets via a touch screen pad in the cab. The Co- Pilot system is linked in with Volvo’s Care Track telematics system.
Hugh King & Co. has been producing silica sands, mortars and renders for over 160 years. The company recently became part of Tillicoultry Quarries Ltd.
