DUMFRIES-based Oakbank Waste Management has snapped up a Terex Finlay 883+ reclaimer screen, which will be used to segregate inert material at the firm’s recycling facility.
There is a mix of material including brick, stone, rubble, concrete and soil. Oakbank is separating the material to produce a sellable product and give their customers more choice of aggregates.
The 883+ represents the first machine the company has bought from Finlay Scotland, having previously purchased a used 883 from south of the border.
Euan Fairweather, sales manager at Finlay Scotland, told Project Plant, “Oakbank had an 883 and this had proven to be very reliable and efficient. This machine completed the job very successfully and as they were so happy with the 883, they purchased a new one due to age.
“The new 883+ has a longer deck, which allows for cleaner material and more tonnage. It also has easier access all round, a quicker set up time and it has the Terex Finlay T-Link telematics system. This allows them to see where this machine is working when out on hire, how many hours per week it is working, fuel usage, and monitor any faults as well as keep on top of servicing.”
Euan explained he has built up a strong relationship with Oakbank group manager John Reid over the years, so when it was time to replace the machine, he had the “trust and confidence” to go with Finlay Scotland.
“The machine has been doing an excellent job and is even more efficient than the previous 883,” Euan added. “The longer deck is allowing the machine to deal with their stickier material and therefore tonnage has increased. This has allowed Oakbank to meet the high demand their customers require.”
Euan described the recycling sector as “very busy” at the moment, with Finlay Scotland enjoying a steady increase in sales to recycling firms. The business, now part of the Molson Group, is eyeing up opportunities for growth in the sector.
“We can offer the complete package from loading a machine with an excavator, processing the material with a crusher or screener, making a stockpile with a loading shovel or tracked conveyor, and compacting the material with a range of compacting equipment,” Euan said.
Oakbank group manager John Reid said, “The reason we purchased this was we know Terex Finlay are the market leader with the 883 being ideal for our application. Also, the machines have good residual value.”
