Borders contractor snaps up package of excavators

JEDBURGH-based RJT Excavations has added four new Volvo excavators to its fleet.

The package is comprised of a 40-tonne EC380E coupled to a Trimble groundworks machine control system, and three 22-tonne EC220Es.

One of the EC220Es features Volvo’s Dig Assist option, which is the first to be delivered in Britain since it was launched earlier this year.

“We have a long association with Volvo Construction Equipment products and are currently operating excavators from 14 to 50-tonnes and A30 articulated haulers,” explained RJT’s assistant plant manager Euan Heard. “Opting for the Dig Assist functionality on one of the new 22-tonne machines along with a Steelwrist tiltrotator will bring added functionality on some of the speciality projects we are currently undertaking. Our operators certainly appreciate the level of comfort in the cab and in general, the performance and reliability of our Volvos has prompted the decision to invest in more of the same.”

The EC380E is powered by a Stage V engine developing 306 net horsepower. An adjustable LCD colour monitor provides real time information of machine functions, diagnostic information and a variety of work tool settings.

The EC220E is installed with a Stage V six-cylinder engine developing 174 nett hp. The Dig Assist feature is an on-board application that helps operators to dig either a line, slope, level or various profiles.
