Thurso firm makes it a double

GOW Groundworks has purchased its second specially converted Volvo EC140E LM excavator.

The Thurso-headquartered company takes on general ground works, housing and commercial building projects across Scotland.

LGP conversion work on the model was carried out by Central Engineering to enable the excavator to carry 1400mm track pads when working in areas requiring ultra-low ground bearing pressure such as peat bogs, or to switch back to the standard 750mm pads for general usage.

Other options specified included all handrails and steps to be powder coated in Kawasaki green and the counterweight to have green and white reflective prismatic chevrons. Additional LED work lights have been added to the counterweight, rear of the cab and underside of the dipper arm, while a Steelwrist tiltrotator has also been installed.

“We have a lot of experience operating Volvo wheeled and crawler excavators and find them very reliable and productive,” explained founder Alan Gow. “They are the machine of choice with our operators for comfort and handling and we also like the fact that Volvo is tied in well with Steelwrist tiltrotators as this adds another dynamic to what the machines can do.”
