WEST Lothian-based Ground Developments Ltd (GDL) has made a significant investment in its plant fleet, bringing in new machines from the Wirtgen Group, Streumaster and Hydrema.
The groundworks specialist has purchased a Wirtgen WR240i stabilisation mixer with an integrated binder spreader from Streumaster, which is mounted on a customised Hydrema chassis. The aim is to offer increased capacity within the soil stabilisation market.
GDL explained that the Hydrema spreader design is the result of ‘extensive collaboration’ between the firm and manufacturer to create a bespoke solution suited to its application.
Kevin Mackenzie, MD at GDL said, “As we look ahead to major infrastructure projects such as HS2, we need to ensure that we can provide the most up-to-date modern plant in order to effectively manage the requirements of these types of complex strategic projects. This includes new machines that can maximise our capacity while featuring the latest safety features such as 360°-degree cameras and hi visibility handrails.
“We’re constantly looking at ways in which we can deliver innovative ground improvement, and our experience over the years has allowed us to work directly with manufacturers such as Wirtgen and Hydrema to create our own bespoke and preferred spreading solution.
“As environmental regulations continue to swing in our favour, forcing greater consideration to be given to the maximum re-use of material on-site, we envisage that soil stabilisation will be a mainstream consideration for any UK earthworks project.”
