Electric dreams: JCB to showcase new excavator at EHS

JCB has announced that the firm’s first ever electric excavator will be shown for the first time at the Executive Hire Show 2019.

The manufacturer explained that the 19C-1E will allow contractors to work inside buildings, in “emissions-sensitive” inner city environments and in tunnels or underground, without having to install exhaust extraction equipment. The excavator features three lithium-ion battery packs providing a 312Ah (15kWh) storage capacity. A standard load-sensing hydraulic system is described by JCB as delivering “powerful digging performance”.

Also debuting at the show, which will be held in Coventry in early February, will be the new CT260 tandem roller, which boasts a maximum operating weight of 2740kg and is powered by a Tier 4 Final 18.5kW engine. JCB said the machine is “easier and more comfortable to use, safer to operate, simpler to service and cheaper to run”. It is said to be ideal for road maintenance, groundworks, landscaping or sports facilities.
