Synthetic oil boosts tiltrotator service life

Rototilt tiltrotators were exhibited at ScotPlant this year on the stand of Scottish dealer Highland Hammer Hire

ROTOTILT has developed a new type of fully-synthetic oil, which the manufacturer explained is designed to maximise tiltrotator service life.

The oil, which is free from polymers, is described as being of higher quality and boasting a longer shelf life than mineral oil due to lower volatility.

Ander Mitterer, order & after sales manager at Rototilt Group AB said, “Going from the previous mineral oil to the new, all-synthetic oil is a big step and we see many distinct advantages with the change.

“As an example, synthetic oil can handle 50% higher temperatures while maintaining function comparable to mineral oil.”

Rototilt added that its tiltrotators are the only ones on the market with oil-filled rotor housings. The reason for this, they say, is that oil produces the best lubrication properties in comparison to grease.

The new oil has been optimised for the rotor housing’s worm gear.

Ander Mitterer added, “That we have oil in our tiltrotators did not happen by chance. Oil dissipates heat better than grease and better dissipation leads to less wear.

“In addition, service and daily maintenance are significantly easier with oil.

“With our new oil, service intervals are extended – 500 hours until first service and then every 1000 hours. Rototilt’s Fully Synthetic Gear Oil contributes to energy savings over nearly the entire cycle.”
