22-tonne excavator deal “felt right” for Denny contractor

A Denny-based contractor has lavished praise on two recently purchased 22-tonne Volvo EC220Es.

George Russell Construction had previously operated EC210 and EC240 models, and opted for two new Volvos when a requirement for more machines arose.

Director George Russell (junior) explained, “We have a good experience with operating Volvo excavators going back many years. As we needed to add two more machines for specific projects, SMT GB were able to supply right away so their availability played a part in us choosing Volvo once again. We know they have a good pedigree in terms of reliability and productivity and they hold strong residual values so everything felt right doing this deal.”

Powered by a six-cylinder Volvo engine developing 174 nett hp, features of the EC220E include the Volvo Care Cab, a 14-vent climate control system, and an adjustable LCD colour monitor which provides real time information of the machine functions.

“The EC220E is proving to be the optimum size of machine for our operations,” George Russell added. “It has plenty of breakout force and digging power and is ideal for bulk muck shifting and hammer work.”
