The Wacker Neuson Group is planning to open a new production plant in China.

The plant, located near Shanghai, will initially produce compact excavators for the local market, with further products following.

Cem Peksaglam, chief executive officer for Wacker Neuson SE, explained, “We have finally decided for the Pinghu location in Zhejiang Province, which best fulfils our requirements and the support of the local authorities is outstanding.”

Wacker Neuson said the advantages of the new location are a “strategically favourable position between the cities of Shanghai and Hangzhou, as well as good infrastructure”.

“Manufacturing facilities, research and development, quality management, logistics, service and training will be located on approximately 135,000 m² of ground with approximately 30,000 m² of building space,” according to the Group.

Cem added, “We are continuing our strategy of internationalisation with this step. In the largest construction machine market in the world we underline our commitment towards our Chinese customers and trading partners.”

Construction is due to start in autumn 2016 and be completed by the end of 2017. The first compact excavator is expected to roll off the production line at the start of 2018.
