NATIONAL plant and pump, hire and sales company Selwood has invested £2million with Hyundai since the beginning of the year on excavators to enhance its already sizeable hire fleet.

70 machines have been ordered consisting of a mixture of Hyundai R27Z-9, R60CR-9, R80CR-9 and R140LC-9A units. Selwood was the first stockist of Hyundai construction machinery in the UK over 15 years ago when it invested in R55-3s for its hire fleet and was appointed a distributor in 2001.

Andy Ridgwell, Selwood’s operations manager, said, “Although for us this is a large investment in a short space of time, it is important that we continue to increase and update our fleet to meet customer expectations. 2014 is going well for us and this investment in our fleet is essential for us to maintain growth. In addition to investing in our hire fleet we also sell around 40 machines a year and this will take our purchases of Hyundai excavators to over 100 this year with a value in excess of £4m.”

Starting trading in 1946, Selwood was initially built around a plant hire and sales operation and still retains a strong regional presence today.  In the 1950’s Selwood built its first mobile site pump and in addition to transforming themselves into the UK’s leading pump hire supplier servicing the Water, Environmental and Construction markets, the company also exports over 70% of the units produced through a worldwide distribution network. The company now has a £56million annual turnover and employs 420 staff throughout its national network of branches.
